Australian-born baritone, Laurence Meikle, has performed as a guest principal artist with Opera Australia, Victorian Opera and Melbourne Opera. His repertoire with these companies includes Cosi fan tutte (Guglielmo), Don Giovanni (Masetto), L'Incoronazione di Poppea (Littore/Mercurio), La Bohème (Schaunard), Tosca (Angelotti), Gianni Schicchi (Pinelino), Madama Butterfly (Commissario), The Gondoliers (Luiz), Easton's The Obelisk (Tiny), Menotti's Amahal and the Night Visitors (King Melchior), and roles in the chamber operas A Hand of Bridge (Barber) and The Telephone (Menotti). In 2007 he sang Malatesta in Don Pasquale for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Schaunard in a recent Australian tour of La Bohème for Eastern Touring Opera. Mr Meikle's concert repertoire includes over 20 major oratorio roles with many of Australia's finest orchestras, including The Australian Pops Orchestra, The Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, and The Canberra Symphony. He also has a great interest in German lieder, and has performed cycles of Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, and most recently, Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn at the Melbourne Town Hall. He has performed recitals throughout Australia, as well as in Switzerland and the UK. Mr Meikle completed degrees in Drama, Music and Teaching before commencing postgraduate opera studies at London's Royal Academy of Music, where he currently studies with Janice Chapman.
