Elizabeth Bailey was born in Bristol, England. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama (London) in 2002, followed by a one-year Post Diploma in Vocal Training. In July 2005, through generous support by numerous London Livery Companies and scholarships from The Sybil Tutton, Reeves Foundation, Wingate and Lawrence Atwell's Charity, she completed a two-year Opera Course.
Ms Bailey's most recent operatic roles include Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) at L'Opera Lausanne, Rosina (La Finta Seplice) at the L'Heure Bleue Theatre, La Chaux-de-Fonds and Monica (The Medium) for Fribourg Opera, which toured to Besançon and Dijon. In the summer of 2006 she sang the roles of Crobyle (Thais) for Grange Park Opera and Ernestine (Monsieur Choufleuri, Offenbach) at the new "Off and Bach" festival in Venelles, France. Other roles include Barbarina (The Little Green Swallow, Dove), Thérese (Les Mamelles de Tiresias), Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia), Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Philine (Mignon), as well as excerpts from Alcina, Mitridate, Don Pasquale, Cosi fan Tutte, La Finta Giardiniera, Die Zauberflöte, La Cenerentola, Rigoletto and Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
As a soloist Ms Bailey has performed with many choral societies around Britain. Her repertoire includes Handel's Messiah, Brahms' Requiem, Mozart's Mass in C minor, Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Mendelssohn's Elijah. She was a member of the National Youth Choir and Laudibus (National Youth Chamber Choir). In summer 2003 she worked at Glyndebourne Festival Opera in the productions of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Strauss' Die Fledermaus.
Ms Bailey has participated in many international competitions. In the 2008 Francisco Vinas Competition in Barcelona, she competed in the Final Round at the Liceu Opera. She was also a finalist in the Geneva Competition 2007 where she sang in the Grand Théâtre de Geneve, accompanied by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Other competitions include the prestigious Operalia Competition (Paris), the Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition (Vienna) and the first International Competition in Strasbourg, where she was a finalist. Ms Bailey won the "Menuhin Festival Prize" in the first Swiss International Singing Competition in Bern 2006, and she was also a finalist of the prestigious Toulouse International Singing Competition the same year. In November 2005 she won First Prize - Opera and Second Prize - Mélodie at the European Competition in Macon, France. Other prizes include "Le Prix de Jeune Espoir" at the Marmande Competition 2004 and "Prix de Les Directeurs", Marmande 2005.
Future plans include participation in the Mozart Academie in Aix-en-Provence, Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) for Opera de Baugé, Princesse (Le Chat Botté) at Lausanne Opera, Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice) at Jeune Opera Companie, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Opera d'Avenches and Contessa di Folleville (Il Viaggio a Reims) in a tour of France, where she will sing in the prestigous opera houses of Bordeaux, Marseille and Toulouse.
Under the auspices of the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation, Ms Bailey recently presented recitals at the Jours de Arts festival in Glion, Switzerland and at Christies Auction House, London.
